10 Fast and Free Security Enhancements
Before you spend a time on security, there are many precautions you can take that will protect you against the most common threats.
1. Check Windows Update and Office Update regularly (_http://office.microsoft.com/productupdates); have your Office CD ready. Windows Me, 2000, and XP users can configure automatic updates. Click on the Automatic Updates tab in the System control panel and choose the appropriate options.
2. Install a personal firewall. Both SpyGate (_www.sygate.com) and ZoneAlarm (_www.zonelabs.com) offer free versions.
3. Install a free spyware blocker. Our Editors' Choice ("Spyware," April 22) was SpyBot Search & Destroy (_http://security.kolla.de). SpyBot is also paranoid and ruthless in hunting out tracking cookies.
4. Block pop-up spam messages in Windows NT, 2000, or XP by disabling the Windows Messenger service (this is unrelated to the instant messaging program). Open Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services and you'll see Messenger. Right-click and go to Properties. Set Start-up Type to Disabled and press the Stop button. Bye-bye, spam pop-ups! Any good firewall will also stop them.
5. Use strong passwords and change them periodically. Passwords should have at least seven characters; use letters and numbers and have at least one symbol. A decent example would be f8izKro@l. This will make it much harder for anyone to gain access to your accounts.
6. If you're using Outlook or Outlook Express, use the current version or one with the Outlook Security Update installed. The update and current versions patch numerous vulnerabilities.
7. Buy antivirus software and keep it up to date. If you're not willing to pay, try Grisoft AVG Free Edition (Grisoft Inc., www.grisoft.com). And doublecheck your AV with the free, online-only scanners available at www.pandasoftware.com/activescan and _http://housecall.trendmicro.com.
8. If you have a wireless network, turn on the security features: Use MAC filtering, turn off SSID broadcast, and even use WEP with the biggest key you can get.
9. Join a respectable e-mail security list, such as the one found at our own Security Supersite at _http://security.ziffdavis.com, so that you learn about emerging threats quickly and can take proper precautions.

Google made Easy
| 1. Different Types of Files at your will How many times would you have asked for materials (PDF, PPT, DOC) for a particular topic from a friend? Its almost everyday that we might have the necessity to ask them either for knowledge, preparing a presentation, white-paper or for case studies. Such times it mostly difficult to look out what to exactly search for because most of the times you don’t know about the topic at hand. But this petty keyword unleashes its lethal power at such occasions. Let’s say I want to implement a case study on SOA which means I have to read a lot of information for SOA. So I just have to find materials which might have already been uploaded on the web in the form of PDF’s, DOC’s or PPT’s. | 2. Scholarly Search If you want some authenticity of the materials then it would be better to find the materials from educational institutes or universities. For this use the Google scholar search. But suppose you don’t like to switch to Google scholar search you can add the same query with an additional parameter to the normal Google search box, * service oriented architecture filetype:pdf site:edu 3. Meanings of any word in an instant Now you do not have to carry a dictionary or install a dictionary software just for the purpose of finding out a meaning of a word. With the wealth of information in Google’s hands, its a piece of cake to find out the meaning of the word. Just use the define: keyword. The meaning would of course be displayed but also a set of other links which might have an alternative definition are also given out with the link to read more about it. * define:beureaucracy You would argue here that, a dicitionary gives out more information than this. But what about words that don’t actually fall within the vocabulary. Suppose you want to know what SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) is then you would have no choice. Find the time of any location Many of us might be probably working for client which are based at different locations. And communication has to be carried out frequently carried out in such cases. But before a communication you have to know which time zone the location is falling into otherwise you would be causing a disturbance. I have seen people installing time zone software for showing the time of the location they would be calling to. But with Google at your hands you don’t have to install any software. It would be just simple to use a query for finding the current time such as, * time new york psst….look closely the time on the little clock graphic. It also shows the perfect time! 5. But its amusing to see the organizations here trying to put together tactics to devoid cricket lovers from wasting time to watch the cricket scores instead of doing their work. What I think they fail to understand is that by blocking the live cricket scoring sites they are actually making the employees more curios and provoking them to hunt for proxy networks or listen to the radio or chat with their friends elsewhere. Jokes apart, you actually don’t need proxy networks to view the live cricket scores if you at least have access to Google. If you want to find the latest info about all the cricket matches then just type, * cricket But if you want to find out only about a particular match then use only the names of the two playing nations, * India Australia Remember that the scorecard will come only when the play is going on. 7. Calculate with your browser Every OS has a calculator inbuilt but when the browser is the thing which is constantly open whey bother to open up a calculator. Wanna find some faces? This is most interesting trick. You might be needing images for various occasions and searching for images is the most difficult thing because what we expect might not be possibly mapped to a query. But Google has a parameter in place for images in situations we need an image which describes a face. Suppose I search for the term “happy” then the Google results page displays smileys. But I would like to use images of happy people. Even if I choose the term as “happy face” the results don’t show images which contain people. For this there is a parameter “imgtype” which you can use with the URL. For this put in the URL as follows: * http://images.google.co.in/images?q=happy&imgtype=face There are many more variations which can be bought about with the above tricks thus making your search experience not only enriching but also exciting. How to use A Trial Program forever without activation
In this post I’ll show you how to “hack” a Software and run the trial program forever.
Most of us are familiar with many software's that run only for a specified period of
time in the trial mode. Once the trial period is expired these software's stop
functioning and demand for a purchase. But there is a way to run the software's and
make them function beyond the trial period. Isn’t this interesting?
Before I tell you how to “hack” the software and make it run in the trial mode
forever, we have to understand the functioning of these software's. I’ll try to explain
this in brief.
When these software's are installed for the first time, they make an entry into the
Windows Registry with the details such as Installed Date and Time, installed path
etc. After installation every time you run the software, it compares the current
system date and time with the installed date and time. So, with this it can make out
whether the trial period is expired or not.
So with this being the case, just manually changing the system date to an earlier date
will not solve the problem. For this purpose there is a small Tool known as RunAsDate.
RunAsDate is a small utility that allows you to run a program in the date and time
that you specify. This utility doesn’t change the current system date, but it only
injects the date/time that you specify into the desired application.
RunAsDate intercepts the kernel API calls that returns the current date and time
(GetSystemTime, GetLocalTime, GetSystemTimeAsFileTime), and replaces the
current date/time with the date/time that you specify.
It works with Windows 2000, XP, 2003 and Vista.
NOTE: FOLLOW THESE TIPS CAREFULLY
You have to follow these tips carefully to successfully “hack” a software and make it
run in it’s trial mode forever.

Now you can lock your XP workstation with two clicks of the mouse.
Just follow these steps:
1.Create a new shortcut on your desktop using a right mouse click(Right click->New->Shortcut)
2.Here a create shortcut dialog box appears…

1.Open the Registry editor.

5.Now right click on the window on your right and add a New DWORD Value.
6.Rename it MaxConnectionsPerServer.
7.Next right click on MaxConnectionsPerServer to edit the Dword Value.
8.Choose a base.If it is Hexadecimal,set the value to 99.If you opt for Decimal,set it to 153
.
9.Create another DWORD and rename it MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server.
10.Here,too,put the value mentioned above.
11. If both values i.e. MaxConnectionsPerServer and MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server is already present then just edit their hxadecimal or decimal value.
12.Restart Internet Explorer and watch the boost you get in your connection.

Correcting System Hang at Startup
If your system hangs about 2 or 3 minutes at startup, where you can't access the Start
button or the Taskbar, it may be due to one specific service (Background Intelligent
Transfer) running in the background. Microsoft put out a patch for this but it didn't
work for me. Here's what you do:
· Click on Start/Run, type 'msconfig', then click 'OK'.
· Go to the 'Services' tab, find the 'Background Intelligent Transfer' service.
· Disable it, apply the changes & reboot.

3. Get SMS-Spamm.jar file. Send this file to your mobile phone and install it on your cell.
4. After installation, open "Havalito SMS Spammer".
5. Now, enter the mobile number of victim in text box next to "TO". Enter how many messages you want to bomb to victim say 45-60 or even more if you want. In text box next to "SMS Message" enter the message you want to send to victim. Now, hit on "Start Spamm" and SMS Bomber will start bombing your victim with messages.
Note:- This SMS Bomber uses your network and hence you will be charged for each message you send. This SMS Bomber is particularly useful when you have free sms packages activated on your number. There are many networks say in India, there are Reliance, Airtel and many others which offer such packages. So, simply activate SMS pack from your service provider and start bombing your victim with this SMS Bomber.

This step-by-step workshop will be in two phases—Windows Vista and Windows XP.
Installing Windows XP from a USB flash drive
Step 1: Download the software ‘Komku-SP-usb.exe’ from the websites mentioned earlier and execute it. The executable file will extract the necessary utilities to a folder called ‘C:komku’.
Step 2: Once the package has been extracted, go to the folder ‘C:komkuPeToUSB’ using Windows Explorer. Execute the file ‘PeToUSB.exe’. Plug in the USB flash drive and make sure you choose the following (see image below) before clicking the start button. Select ‘USB removable’, ‘Enable Disk Format’, ‘Quick format’, ‘Enable LBA (Fat 16x)’ and finally give the drive a name under ‘Drive Label’. Once it’s done, click start to let the utility format the drive.
Step 3: Next you will need to start the command prompt. Click ‘Start | Run’, type ‘cmd’ and press [Enter]. Then go to the ‘bootsect’ directory by typing the command ‘cd C:komkubootsect’ and pressing [Enter]. Now type the command ‘bootsect /nt52 F:’ and press [Enter]. (The ‘F:’ is the USB flash drive letter represented in ‘My Computer’. Check to verify the drive letter used by your USB flash drive). Let the utility do the needful. Do not exit the Command Prompt yet.
Step 4: Now you will need to change to the directory ‘Usb_Prep8’ by using the command ‘cd C:komkuusb_prep8’ and pressing [Enter]. Here execute the command ‘usb_prep8’ and press [Enter]. Press any key to continue and you will see a welcome screen with a menu appear in the Command Prompt.
Step 5: Now at this stage, you will have to insert the Windows XP installation disk into your optical drive. At the Command Prompt menu, type ‘1’ and press [Enter]. A new popup will appear asking you to choose the location (path) of the Windows installation disk. Select the optical drive and click ‘OK’. Next choose ‘2’ from the menu and change the drive letter to any drive letter which has not been taken. It is drive ‘T:’ by default and you can ignore this step unless you do have a ‘T:’ drive on your computer.
After this, choose ‘3’ from the menu and enter the drive letter of your USB flash drive (in this case it would be ‘F’). Finally choose ‘4’ from the menu and press [Enter]. Wait for a few seconds for the process to complete and you will see a prompt to allow the utility to format the USB flash drive. Type ‘Y’ and then press [Enter] at this stage to let the utility proceed and install the necessary files from the Windows XP installation disk to the USB flash drive. This process will take a few minutes and depends on the speed of the flash drive.
Step 6: After the files are copied, you will see a popup window asking you for permission to copy files from the temp drive to the USB flash drive. Select ‘Yes’.
Step 7: Next there will be another popup window asking you to allow the utility to change the boot drive letter of the USB flash drive from ‘F:’ to ‘U:’. Select ‘Yes’.
Step 8: Finally, after all the processes are complete, you will see yet another popup window asking if you want to unmount the virtual drive. Select ‘Yes’. Exit the Command Prompt now and you will see that your flash drive is ready to install Windows XP to another computer.
To install Windows XP to the computer, you will have to go to the BIOS and enable the option of booting from a USB removable device. This option is usually found under the boot sequence menu of the BIOS. Plug in the USB drive to the computer before you turn it on. Now your computer will boot from the USB flash drive and will be ready to install Windows XP. Follow the necessary steps to install Windows XP and your computer will be up, raring and ready to go and running Windows in no time.
Installing Windows Vista from a USB flash drive
Making a bootable Windows Vista installation USB drive is far simpler than doing so for Windows XP because the utility is built into the operating system and can be deployed from the Command Prompt itself. All you would need is a computer running the Windows Vista operating system, the original Windows Vista installation DVD and at least a 4 GB USB flash drive. Follow the simple steps ahead to make your own Windows Vista bootable USB drive.
Step 1: Start Windows Vista, insert the pen drive into the computer’s USB port. Start Command Prompt, type ‘diskpart’ and press [Enter].
Step 2: Type ‘list disk’ and press [Enter]. Carefully note down the USB flash drive’s disk number listed here. In this case it would be ‘Disk 1’
Step 3: Type ‘Select disk 1’ and press [Enter]. Here the Diskpart utility is instructed to choose the disk 1 as the drive to be worked on.
Step 4: Type ‘Clean’ and press [Enter]. This command clears out all the information of the volumes, partitions, boot sectors and the MBR from the USB flash drive.
Step 5: Type ‘Create partition primary’ and press [Enter]. This command will create a primary partition on the USB flash drive.
Step 6: Type ‘Select partition 1’ and press [Enter]. This command instructs the Diskpart utility to select the newly created partition.
Step 7: Type ‘Active’ and press [Enter]. This command will make the current partition (primary) active to enable the USB flash drive to boot from.
Step 8: Type ‘Format fs=fat32’ and press [Enter]. This command formats the selected drive partition using the FAT32 file system.
Step 9: Type ‘Assign’ and press [Enter]. This command assigns a drive letter to the newly formatted partition. As there is no drive letter specified in the command line, the next available drive letter is assigned to the drive.
Step 10: Exit from the Diskpart utility using the ‘exit’ command and pressing [Enter]. Now insert the Windows Vista DVD in the optical drive and type the command ‘xcopy e:*.* /s /e /f F:’ and press [Enter]. This command will dump all the contents of the Windows Vista DVD onto the USB flash drive. Your USB drive is now ready to install Windows Vista on any computer. Just set the boot sequence in the BIOS of the system to boot from the USB, insert
the USB flash drive into the computers USB port and turn on the computer. Follow the regular installation for Windows Vista.

scroll down to the last line

How to use multi orkut in fire fox?
Step 1:
open system properties(by right clicking my computer), choose tab advanced, click to environment variables button. in system variables section, click new. type this information to each textbox.
variable name: moz_no_remote(should be all small letter)
variable value: 1
press ok to close all windows.
Step 2:
open firefox icon's properties(from desktop and quick launch). add extension -p to command line(like "c:\program files\mozilla firefox\firefox.exe" -p). press ok. note:give a space after ....\firefox.exe" and type -p
while starting firefox u have to create two separate profiles of firefox so that u can login to two accounts of any(orkut,yahoo,rediff or anything else).......
for three logins create three profiles of firefox.........

* Goto Tools>Options>Main
* In the When Firefox starts drop down menu choose Show my home page
* In Home page give your homepages separated by a | (pipe symbol)
ex. http://www.google.com|http://www.orkut.com|http://yahoo.com
* Click OK
Now next time when you start Firefox all of your three home pages will be displayed simultaneously.
